The Benchmade 430SBK-02 Redoubt blade is made from CPM D2 steel. This is a tough tool steel that retains its sharpness well and is also easy to sharpen. However, be careful with moisture and acids: D2 is not completely stainless. Benchmade has tackled this problem by applying a black Cerakote coating. This version of the Redoubt has a partially serrated edge. It’s great for cutting stiff materials like rope. The blade is locked in its open position by an Axis lock mechanism. The knife features steel liners at the front of the handle for additional strength around the lock.
