The Forward Controls Design SBCG NP3 AR-15 Bolt Carrier Group – Dimpled is a purpose-built M16-pattern bolt carrier group designed to provide reliable performance, enhanced durability, and practical functionality for AR-15 platforms. Combining a proven carrier design with a durable NP3 coating, the SBCG NP3 is built for shooters who value reliability and thoughtful engineering over unnecessary weight reduction or cosmetic features.
The SBCG carrier features a dimpled forward-assist surface machined into the carrier ahead of the gas vents. This provides a convenient contact point for gently closing an out-of-battery bolt on slick-side upper receivers without a forward assist. The carrier retains standard forward-assist pawl notches, making it compatible with traditional forward-assist equipped uppers as well.
A key feature of the Forward Controls Design SBCG NP3 is its Secure Staking system. The carrier utilizes Ned Christiansen’s Optimized Carrier Key Screws (OCKS), which feature aggressive knurling designed to provide additional engagement when the gas key is properly staked. The gas key is torqued to specification and properly staked for dependable service.
The SBCG NP3 uses an AISI 8620 steel carrier machined to USGI specifications, along with a 9310 steel bolt that is heat treated, stress relieved, shot peened, and MPI tested. The bolt includes a Sprinco heavy-duty extractor spring and black O-ring or insert. The bolt and cam pin are NP3 treated for increased corrosion resistance and easier carbon cleanup.
The entire carrier assembly receives a Nickel/PTFE (NP3) coating, creating a smooth, permanently lubricious surface with a low coefficient of friction. While NP3 helps reduce friction and carbon buildup, Forward Controls Design still recommends proper lubrication of the carrier, bolt, charging handle, and upper receiver.
