Description
Radian Weapons Raptor-SD Ambidextrous Charging Handle – Black
The Radian Weapons Raptor-SD is an ambidextrous charging handle that features a ported shaft designed to redirect gasses down and forward, away from the shooter’s face when shooting suppressed. Its ambidextrous design allows rapid palm “blading” or finger thumb charging of the weapon, ensuring the motion is fluid and fast from either strong or support side. The Raptor-SD is compatible with most AR15/M16 pattern rifles. It is designed and manufactured in the USA and is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a MIL-Spec Type 3 hard coat anodized finish.
One of the defining characteristics of the Radian Weapons Raptor-SD is its fully ambidextrous design. Dual extended latches are integrated into both sides of the handle, allowing the shooter to charge the rifle using either hand without modification. The latches are ergonomically shaped and textured to provide positive traction, even when wearing gloves or operating in wet or adverse conditions. This makes the charging handle well suited for right- and left-handed shooters alike, as well as for tactical or competitive environments where rapid manipulation is important. The design supports multiple charging techniques, including traditional thumb-and-forefinger operation and the “blading” method, where the shooter sweeps the latch with the palm for quick, efficient cycling.
What differentiates the Radian Weapons Raptor-SD from the standard Raptor model is its gas-redirecting design. The “SD” designation stands for suppressor-optimized, and the handle incorporates strategically placed ports and internal geometry intended to redirect gas away from the shooter’s face when running a suppressed rifle. Suppressors often increase back pressure within the firearm, which can force excess gas rearward through the charging handle channel. The Raptor-SD helps mitigate this effect, reducing discomfort and improving overall shooting experience during suppressed fire. While it does not eliminate gas entirely, it significantly decreases the amount directed toward the shooter compared to standard charging handles.
